Sunday marked the final day golfers were able to play the iconic Bethpage Black and several courses before the Ryder Cup kicks off.
Golfers had the opportunity to play on the course through the eyes of a pro.
"We live 15 minutes from here and this is all our first times in our lives that we're actually able to play this course," said Dean Chidester, of Commack.
Dean and his brother Andrew are among the many playing Bethpage Black before it closes for the Ryder Cup this fall.
"What makes the Black course so special besides the difficulty of it, is that it's a public course, it's one of the few public courses in the country that host events like the Ryder Cup, U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship," said Scott Matson, park director of Bethpage State Park.
Maintenance crews will be getting the Black course camera-ready for the Ryder Cup. The PGA will be putting finishing touches on hospitality structures and grandstands for the international event.
"It's awesome knowing that the pros are going to be here in a couple weeks and we get a chance to basically play on the same course. Same conditions, same environment, same everything. They even got the grandstands built up already so you get that little bit of effect as well, so it's going to be a lot of fun," said Andrew Chidester, of Commack.
Some golfers camped out in their cars overnight for the chance to play the Black course.
"Spent the night here, got the tickets at 4 in the morning, now we're ready to play," Dean Chidester said.
"We've had a crowded line every single night, guys sleeping in their cars two or three nights at a time to play the Black course," Matson said.
The blue and the red courses at Bethpage State Park are open through Sept. 7.
The Ryder Cup will be held Sept. 23 through the 28.
News 12 will have full coverage of the tournament on air and online.
