A fire broke out in a second-floor room at a Carteret hotel Monday morning, sending one person to a hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Carteret firefighters responded to the Holiday Inn at about 8:37 a.m. and found flames coming from a second-floor room window, Fire Chief Eric J. Wahl said.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the room where it started, Wahl said.
A single occupant escaped from the room and was being treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
One guest said they were shaken after the fire alarm woke them and their children.
"They woke us up around 8:40 [a.m.] around there and there was a fire on the second floor," said Carlos Morel.
"There was already like four trucks and like a good five to six police cars... just a little shaken cause I have my kids with me and stuff."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Hotel ownership is working to relocate guests.
