The basketball season is right around the corner, and a lot of professional games people watch this year will have Fairfield County fingerprints all over them.
For the first time in more than 20 years, the NBA is returning to NBC, along with the iconic "Roundball Rock" theme song.
NBC Sports headquarters, located on Blachley Road in Stamford, will play a massive role in the production.
"The nation is going to watch Connecticut every Tuesday night," says Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports. "I talk to friends sometimes, and they’re amazed it’s all coming from this little studio we have down here in Stamford, Connecticut."
On Tuesday nights, NBC will begin broadcasting two NBA games from coast to coast.
An in-studio show, featuring former stars like Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Carmelo Anthony, will be broadcast live out of studio 1 at NBC Sports HQ.
"I'm like a kid in a candy store right now," 10-time NBA all-star Carmelo Anthony says. "I get to talk basketball and listen to all the stories."
Monday night games will also be broadcast live on Peacock.
“This building has a buzz to it," says Mike Tirico, NBC host and play-by-play announcer. "To have these businesses coming in to do these things makes your community stronger. I think it’s a feather in the cap of this area to have many different networks and many different businesses working out of here now."
It all tips off with NBC's opening-night doubleheader later this month on Oct. 21.
"Sunday Night Basketball" on NBC will begin in February.
