Thursday is Thanksgiving – and for many people, picking up the turkey has become a family tradition. That tradition surrounds the turkey pickup line outside Goffle Road Poultry Farm in Wyckoff.

"We have three and four generations of people that talk about how they used to come as a kid with their parents and now they're bringing their kids the same day. It's always a tradition," said Cathy Orsi, with the farm.

A tradition Michael Donne and his wife have kept up over the years.

"Last couple of years…We've been ordering it. We either order a whole turkey or turkey breast. This year we're having a few fewer people so we ordered the turkey breast,” said Donne. “I'm gonna fry this up tomorrow morning or tomorrow afternoon…Ready to watch the turkey, a little football and I will also pick up a chicken pot pie for tonight and a blueberry pie for tomorrow.”

The shop offers birds from eight to 40 pounds – plus all the sides.

"Turkey gravy that we make here. We had chicken stock that we make here," said Orsi. "We have turkey stock that we make here. We have chicken pot pies that are made daily in our kitchen. We had turkey pot pies. We also have fruit pies, pumpkin, blueberry, apple, cherry."

And as many people pick up their turkeys this Thanksgiving, they count their blessings.

"Thanksgiving is a time where you get together with your family and say thanks for the things that you've been given and gotten in life and things that you hope to get in the following year and it's a time to get the family and love each other love one another, which we need a lot more of right now," said Donne.

The farm sells between 6,000 and 7,000 turkeys during the holiday.
