On Thanksgiving Eve, lines at Newark Liberty International Airport progressed as the night went on.
During the afternoon hours, the airport was quieter than expected.
Those who were running a bit late to their flight said they were thankful for fewer crowds.
"I'll make it to my destination safely. I'm happy to be traveling for the holidays. I'm happy to see my family and all that nice stuff,' said Jashawn Richardson, who was headed south.
"It's actually strange because when I flew in the past out of Newark, it was almost out-the-door, the lines," said traveler Michael Heaton.
In Terminal A, there was a good mix of people traveling to their families and families traveling together. Destinations range from places like Washington D.C., North Carolina and Florida to 14-hour flights to Europe.
Experienced travelers know it best: holidays mean possible delays. Delays and crowds are expected to worsen. Many who are traveling this holiday say they're prepared for the wait.
