A small plane landed without its landing gear deployed Sunday afternoon at Essex County Airport, Fairfield police say.
Police say they received a 911 call from the airport about a "gear-up" landing at one of its runways just before 2:30 p.m.
Police, firefighters and EMS responded to the scene and found the Piper Seminole P-44 stopped in the runway.
The instructor, a 31-year-old Paterson man, and a 32-year-old male student from Elizabeth, were both uninjured, police say.
Authorities say the plane belongs to the Airfleet Training Systems, which is located at the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. It was not immediately clear why the landing gear didn’t deploy.
