Fairfield National Little League is one step closer to a Little League World Series Championship.
There have been 21 Connecticut teams that have gone to the Little League World Series. Four have won the title, including the 1951 team from Stamford and Trumbull National in 1989. Fairfield is hoping to be the next.
Fairfield National beat South Dakota last night 13-1 for its third straight win in the Little League World Series. Fairfield beat Texas and Hawaii earlier in Williamsport. And has become a dominant force in this tournament. People in Fairfield, including State Senator Tony Hwang are behind them all the way.
"This team is truly special. They reflect the Fairfield community but most important of all they are committed to each other. They're each other's best friends they've been playing together since they were eight years old and in this day and age of digital world and virtual world these young people are on the field, engaging, interacting and being best friends with each other," said Hwang.
Fairfield National plays Nevada in the next game tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. If Fairfield wins, the team will advance to the U.S. championship game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
