Two train-related deaths this month, and three total this year, have Hackensack officials calling for a safety audit from NJ Transit.
Two of the deaths occurred on the Pascack Valley Line earlier in August. The other was back in May.
City officials want NJ Transit to conduct a safety audit to determine why this is happening and how intended and unintended deaths might be prevented in the future.
Suggestions include better signage, additional fencing, and education.
NJ Transit has released a statement saying; “There is nothing NJ TRANSIT values more than the safety of our customers, employees, and the residents in the communities we serve. We have been in contact with the City of Hackensack and we are currently in the process of setting up discussions to continue these important conversations.”
