News 12 got an exclusive look at the progress being made at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
The nearly 200,000-square foot, six-story building will add 90 patient rooms, 10 operating rooms and three procedure rooms, as well as a sky bridge connecting to the existing hospital building.
Construction began in 2023 on the over $500 million dollar project, which is expected to be complete by May 2026.
Officials say the expansion was necessary as the demand for the hospital's specialized services was growing.
