Air travelers will now pay more to check a bag on United Airlines as new fee increases take effect starting today.
United said for tickets purchased on or after today, the cost to check a first and second bag will increase by $10, while the fee for a third checked bag will rise by $50 in most markets.
The airline said the price changes apply to most customers traveling on United flights.
In a statement, United said some passengers will still be able to check a bag for free.
“United Chase credit card holders, MileagePlus Premier members, active military members and customers traveling in premium cabins can still check a bag for free,” the airline said.
United also said customers in most markets can receive a $5 discount by prepaying for their checked bags online at least 24 hours before departure.
The airline did not give a specific reason for raising the checked bag fees.
The increase comes as JetBlue also raised its checked bag fees earlier this week.
