Eighth gun seized at Bronx high school just 5 weeks into school year, sources say
Police say they seized a gun inside a Bronx high school on Friday, which, according to school safety sources, is the eighth found inside the school since the start of the school year on Sept. 10.
School safety sources say around 900 students attend Jill Chaifetz Transfer High School, while just two NYPD school safety agents are tasked with keeping the peace.
The school, located in the South Bronx at 778 Forest Ave., does not scan for weapons, according to sources, who say a student threatened to shoot another student during a fight at the school just last week.
Friday's incident happened just before 2:15 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Police say officers took a 19-year-old student into custody for allegedly bringing a gun to school.
No official charges have been filed.
Investigators say no one was hurt during the incident.
News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Education for a statement and is awaiting a response.
