The National Weather Service is heading to Morris County to determine whether tornadoes touched down during Tuesday's powerful storms.
Officials say preliminary information suggests two tornadoes may have formed in Morris County.
National Weather Service survey teams are expected to inspect damage in communities including Stanhope, Denville, Dover, Morristown and Parsippany-Troy Hills.
As the storms moved through the region, residents captured dramatic images and video showing what appeared to be possible tornado development.
A photo taken in West Caldwell appeared to show a large funnel cloud forming in the distance beyond the West Caldwell Plaza.
Video recorded in Parsippany also captured threatening skies as residents watched for signs of a tornado.
In Sussex County, drivers on Interstate 80 encountered flooded roadways and downed trees as severe weather swept through the area.
A water spout also formed in Cape May.
The National Weather Service will use damage surveys and storm data to determine whether tornadoes touched down and, if so, assign an official rating.
