The man wanted for a shooting in Danbury that killed a local father-to-be has a violent criminal history, according to court records.
David “Davicito” Grullon, 42, has a pending case in Danbury Superior Court, where he’s pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree assault, intimidation of a witness, second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Police said Friday that they have a warrant for Grullon’s arrest in the death of his next-door neighbor, Victor Quispe, a well-known barber in the community. Quispe, 37, was shot in his townhouse at 43 Lake Ave. last Wednesday night. The bullet came from Grullon's adjacent unit and went through the wall before hitting Quispe, police said. When officers arrived on scene, Grullon was apparently gone. Police haven’t released how the shooting happened, including whether it was accidental or intentional.
Grullon was last arrested in January 2025, per court records. According to the warrant in that case, Grullon attacked a man for seemingly no apparent reason at Paradise Bar on Tamarack Avenue in July 2024. The warrant said surveillance footage showed Grullon punch the victim twice in the face, knocking him to the ground, where he also kicked him in the face and threw two more punches. The victim and a witness said they believed Grullon was wearing brass knuckles or some other type of metallic material, but police did not clearly observe that in the video, the warrant said.
Grullon is also accused of threatening the victim in the days after. According to the warrant, Grullon followed him to a gas station the following day and told him not to press charges or there would be more problems for him. The victim said Grullon also told him that he would not go back to prison and offered to pay for his hospital bills in exchange for not pressing charges, per the warrant.
Two days later, the victim got a call from a blocked number with the caller stating, “We know where you live” and “You just know what you have to do,” before hanging up, according to the warrant.
The warrant also said Grullon returned to the bar and told staff not to give police any video, which had already happened.
Grullon’s attorney in the pending case, Gene Zingaro, told News 12 he hopes to facilitate Grullon safely turning himself in as soon as possible. Zingaro also said he's concerned about Grullon's safety and wants to assist him, as any attorney would.
According to newspaper articles, Grullon’s legal problems go back over 20 years. The News Times reported he was convicted in connection with a 2004 gang-related stabbing and shooting and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
As the search for Grullon continues, the community has rallied around Quispe's fiancé, who's pregnant with their first child. An online effort is raising money for funeral expenses, maternity care and newborn basics. Quispe's finance called his death an "unimaginable loss," writing, "Víctor was a loving partner, a caring family member, and a man with a kind heart who meant so much to everyone who knew him."
Danbury's mayor shared the fundraiser on social media, posting, "May Vic's memory be a blessing, and may his family feel the prayers, love, and strength of an entire community surrounding them."
A vigil was organized for Monday evening outside Legends Barber Company, where Quispe worked.
