The New Jersey state Senate unanimously advanced legislation that aims to expedite the investigation of rape cases in New Jersey.
It now goes to Gov. Phil Murphy to be signed.
The new law is the result of a three-year Kane in your Corner investigation into the state’s treatment of sexual assault survivors. It requires all rape kits to be tested if a survivor authorizes that testing.
“I’m excited that it passed – but mostly excited that people will get justice that didn’t see it before,” said state Sen. Joe Cryan (D-Union) who co-sponsored the bill with state Sen. Troy Singleton (D-Burlington).
