Connecticut State Police troopers are set to receive a salary increase after a new contract cleared the state budget-writing committee Monday.

The deal includes a 4.5% pay hike, which will take effect in July for most troopers.

Officials say the raises come amid concerns about losing officers to local police departments. Connecticut's Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner highlighted retention challenges, saying competitive salaries are needed to keep troopers on the force.
