Connecticut Democrats in Hartford unveiled a plan for universal pre-K, diverting $300 million of the state surplus into a new Universal Preschool Trust.
The proposal, announced Wednesday, aims to deliver funds to parents faster than a similar plan from Gov. Ned Lamont. Senate Democrats say it addresses key concerns. "Whether they can go to work or send their kids to day care, whether or not kids will be prepared for school when they get to kindergarten, how much is it going to cost?" said State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff.
