Police have identified the woman killed when a car reversed onto a sidewalk in Coney Island, hitting three people.
According to police, an 86-year-old man driving a Chrysler SUV was backing out of a parking spot when he put the car in reverse and hit three women.
Litvak was taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, where she was pronounced dead. A 75-year-old woman and a 43-year-old woman were taken to Maimonides Medical Center and are listed in stable condition.
Video from the scene shows a maroon SUV partially on the sidewalk, shattered glass from a building’s railing, and a grocery bag left behind.
A witness who ran to help described the aftermath as heartbreaking.
“One of them, her shoe was in the middle of the street,” the woman said. “They were all bloody, and one of them had her teeth knocked out. He just got out of the car, and he was like in another world, dazed.”
Police say the driver was also taken to the hospital in stable condition. So far, no arrests have been made, and detectives are still investigating what caused the crash — including whether the driver may have had a medical issue.
