It won't be as windy today, but it will still be just as dry.

        FORECAST:
Another cold one as you head out the door for your Thursday! The threat for wildfires and brush fires continues as long as we have dry air and no rain. The whipping winds of 30-40 mph at times made the situation a lot worse Wednesday, thus the fire weather warning was issued. It won't be as windy today, but it will still be just as dry. The rain we just had was not enough to even dent the drought conditions that are in place across the state.
The new Connecticut drought monitor comes out today but since we haven't seen much rain since last Thursday, there will be no improvement. In the meantime, it will be cooler than normal until the weekend arrives. That's when temperatures warm back up into the lower 60s and that's also when the winds kick back in. The end of the week and weekend will feature more emergency fire spread concerns.
Winds have turned northeast and this will keep the entire area cool. With the shift in wind direction and the full moon Friday, tides are running higher than normal. This means coastal flooding could be a widespread issue. Minor flooding of up to 1 foot of water above ground level is likely during the next several high tide cycles.
        NIGHT SKY:
The moon paired with Saturn Sunday night and now the two objects continue to drift apart in the evening sky. They will still be nearby for tonight, with the moon climbing higher during the evening and moving from the SE sky to the SW through about midnight. Saturn will set at 12:52 a.m.. On the other side of the moon, getting closer, is the planet Jupiter.
Coastal Flood Advisory - Thursday until 11 a.m.
