AAA expects that nearly 6 million Americans will be flying somewhere for Thanksgiving. They are projecting over 168,510 New Jersey residents, that's 8.5%, to take to the skies for the holiday weekend, up 2.5% over last year.
TSA says the top three busiest travel days will be today and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and then the Sunday after. They expect to screen more than 2.8 million people today and 2.9 million tomorrow. More than 3 million travelers on Sunday. Today through Monday they are expecting record numbers.
AAA says 5.8 million people are flying domestically, that is a 2% increase from last year and 11% increase from 2019. Travelers are paying about 3% more for domestic flights. The top 5 locations are Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, New York and Los Angeles.
AAA says international travel is up 23% from last Thanksgiving, they say because flights are down 5%.
Port Authority is expecting Sunday to be the busiest day at NYC area airports including Newark.
