Three Millburn police officers are being lauded for saving an elderly woman from a burning home.
The fire started just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning inside a home on Old Short Hills Road.
Police say that two residents had already escaped, but that an 83-year-old woman was still trapped inside the home.
The officers were able to go through the back of the house and pull the woman to safety. She was not seriously hurt. The rescue was caught on video.
“Officer Sweeny’s, Officer Nacim’s, and Officer Frisch’s actions exemplify the dedication and courage of our police department,” Chief Brian Gilfedder wrote in a statement. “Their swift response and determination saved a life today, and we commend them for their bravery.”
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
