Two firefighters and one resident were injured in an early morning fire in Yonkers, officials say.
Yonkers firefighters were called to the large, three-story home at 78 Lamartine Ave. at around 1:30 a.m.
According to first responders, they were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.
Fire officials say the six people living there had already gotten out of the house, but one person needed to be taken to the hospital to get checked out for medical issues. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Thomas tells News 12, the older construction of the home made it possible for flames to get into voids and spaces within the walls making the fire difficult to fight. It took about 45 firefighters approximately twohours to get the fire under control.
Crews remain on the scene due to concerns over flair ups.
No word yet on a cause.
