A youth basketball coach at Our Lady of Grace Athletic Association in Gravesend was arrested this week for child pornography.
The athletic association confirmed Michael Jafferakos coached a basketball team and served as the intermural basketball commissioner.
The spokesperson for the Brooklyn Diocese said Jafferakos "has been suspended immediately from any involvement with the Our Lady of Grace Gravesend Athletic Association, and all program and facility access has been revoked."
According to court documents Jafferakos admitted to instructing and paying multiple victims to produce the porn over the course of several years and then shared some of the content with another person on an app in return for money.
The document also said he was engaging in the exploitation of minor's days before his arrest.
The victims were as young as 14 years old, and according to authorities, one of the victims played for a team he coached.
A search warrant said in September 2024, the mother of a 14-year-old boy in Wisconsin called 911 reporting she had found sexually explicit videos on her son's phone, which he had sent to Jafferakos.
The victim told authorities he met Jafferakos on Snapchat.
Further investigation uncovered that Jafferakos has sent the victim 15 payments over the course of months.
Jafferakos is being held without bail and faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted.
The Brooklyn Diocese is encouraging anyone with information to call their Diocesan Reporting Line at 888-634-4499.
