The spray shower in Crown Heights' Brower Park remained off, despite the heat on Wednesday.
Normally, people at the park say the spray shower gets turned on around Memorial Day.
But this year, that did not happen, and it has stayed off - and dry - ever since.
Marcus Foushee, a volunteer at the park and member of the Brooklyn Avenue Block Association, says the spray shower has been very popular in previous summers.
"All the kids come here, and they congregate, and they play together, I mean everybody, this whole thing would be flooded," he said.
"We like the way the water sprays from this one, it's like a good configuration," explained Linden O'Neal, one of the children who usually makes visits to the sprinkler a regular part of summer.
"It's super frustrating," said Natalie Olczak, a local parent and park regular. "It's been so hot, and it's such a great place."
"Especially if you don't have an air conditioner at home, this is one of the best cool spots besides the library, and the library air conditioner is kind of on and off," added Eli Morningstar, another park regular with children.
A source says there is a leak in the underground supply line, which forced the park to turn the water off.
To fix it, the city will have to do what was described to us as "extensive exploratory digging."
"To get to another fountain, or another sprinkler system is a bit of a walk in different directions," said Olczak.
It's a feeling shared by multiple people in the area.
Many in the park say that what has made the situation even more frustrating is that there was no official announcement, saying that something as simple as a sign on the fence could have gone a long ways toward clearing the air.
"We just sort of show up every day and hope that maybe - maybe it got fixed overnight," said Olczak.
News 12 was told the hope is that the repairs would be done before the end of the summer.
