A Bronx man is still missing after authorities said he was on a boat that capsized over the weekend.
The Coast Guard said 52-year-old Vernon Glasford and five other people were onboard a vessel that overturned on Sunday afternoon in the Ambrose Channel, about five miles from Breezy Point, Queens.
Officials said three of those people are dead and two others were taken to local hospitals.
The Coast Guard called off their search for Glasford on Monday evening after searching more than 800 square miles.
Friends told News 12 Glasford is from University Heights, loved to fish and was a married father with two children.
“[Glasford] was the greatest thing in the world because at any time I needed help to get something done, he helped me out,” said Shane, a friend of Glasford’s.
“Everybody loved him,” said another friend, who declined to give his name. “He’d go above and beyond for any and everybody. If he doesn’t know you, if he sees you every day, just a lovable person, man.”
Friends said they will not give up their search until Glasford is found.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
