Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim visited the city's new Veterans Support Center at 20 Thorme St. Wednesday, saying he's happy local vets are pleased with their new site.
The move came after years of complaints about the city's former veterans center on East Main Street, which vets complained was "dilapidated and presented a number of serious health hazards" to the men and women it served.
The building where the new center is located also serves as an active firehouse.
"This facility does so much to help a veteran -- and that's what we need more of in this country," said Vietnam combat veteran Eugene McRae, of Bridgeport.
