Hundreds of families turned out Saturday for the Bridgeport Rescue Mission's annual Back-To-School Block Party.
The giveaway event at Wentfield Park on the city's West End featured everything from bookbags to school supplies.
Organizers said it feels great to see so many small business owners supporting their cause.
"This event by the Bridgeport Rescue Mission gives out thousands of bookbags to so many young people. It's a really good way to not only enjoy the day but to kick off back to school coming soon," said Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim.
City officials also thanked the many volunteers who stepped up to make the event possible.
