A breast cancer survivor is using her experience as a patient and expertise as nurse to help others.
Doreen Mather is a breast cancer survivor and felt more could be done to help patients.
“I wanted to do something to change that experience for women going forward," said Mather, who is a surgical nurse navigator Glen Cove Hospital.
She partnered with her co-worker Elizabeth Campbell to create the Blue Angels team.
The program is a resource for patients and their families to navigate breast cancer from surgery to healing.
It offers emotional support, holistic practices, and constant communication, and helps people throughout the process.
