A Shirley homeowner is speaking out after a disturbing act of vandalism was caught on surveillance video early Monday morning.
A shotgun blast shattered the rear window of his wife’s SUV, leaving the vehicle riddled with bullet holes and a community shaken.
Anthony Selvaggio, a longtime resident of Pinewood Drive, says he woke up to find the vehicle — parked just outside his home — badly damaged.
The SUV’s back window was blown out, and there were multiple bullet holes visible throughout the interior, including the windshield.
“I don’t know why I’d be targeted,” said Selvaggio, who has lived in the neighborhood since 1989. “It’s terrible. You work hard for what you have, you try to keep your stuff nice.”
Home surveillance footage provided by the family shows two individuals approaching the SUV in the middle of the night. One person can be seen firing a shotgun directly into the vehicle, while the second appears to be recording the incident on a phone — a chilling detail that has Selvaggio concerned this may be part of a social media trend or online dare.
“I think it’s a TikTok thing,” he said. “It’s the uneasy feeling… somebody came to do that. It’s terrible.”
The shooting occurred around 3:20 a.m., according to Suffolk County police, who are now investigating the case.
No injuries were reported, but the violent and seemingly random nature of the incident has left neighbors on edge.
“To wake up this morning and find out they shot the man’s window... you got to pay attention now around here,” said neighbor Bryan Bethea.
