20h agoA Suffolk County community came together to give the gift of life to two Long Islanders.
Brightview Senior Living and the Marty Lyons Foundation teamed up to help encourage Long Islanders to give the gift of life.
They held a blood drive to increase awareness about the critical blood supply during the summer months.
"There are not enough people who give blood unless they know someone who needs it, they don't even think about it. It expires after 42 days on the shelf. Every donor can only donate once every 56 days, so we need people to fill those gaps," explained Susan Callis, of New York Blood Center.
Thursday's blood drive was also held to help a Sayville senior citizen and an 11-year-old girl, both who are battling blood disorders.
