The city’s 2025 budget will cut $3 million from a nonprofit victim service agency called Safe Horizon.
The agency offers 24/7 support to victims of abuse and domestic violence.
The cut in funding means the program will not be able to reach people who have suffered a traumatic experience.
“The number of people reaching out to us for support has continued to rise, and…11,000 crime victims that we would have been able to reach out to that we no longer can in the coming year.” said CEO Liz Roberts.
A majority of the people who have used the program are from the Bronx.
She says they are hopeful to get funding back soon.
