Three men have been charged with murder after the body of a 39-year-old man was found in a wooded area in Central Islip. The victim, Condido Devenites, was brutally attacked on Feb. 17, according to court documents.
Jhon Lopez Campo, Julio Beltran and Brayan Heredia Escobar allegedly beat, stabbed and strangled Devenites.
The attack took place in a homeless encampment near the corner of Carleton Avenue and Suffolk Avenue. Neighbors are expressing relief that the suspects have been apprehended.
"I’m happy that they moved on it pretty fast and they found who did it," said Paul March, a Central Islip resident.
Al Garner, another local resident, echoed similar sentiments.
"There’s a lot of kids. There’s a school right there, actually two schools here, so it’s unfortunate. I’m glad they got those people," says Garner.
All three suspects have been charged with second-degree murder.
They are currently being held without bail.
