Eight families from three homes are being helped by the Red Cross as of Sunday night after a series of overnight Jersey City fires.
Workers boarded up the Bramhall Avenue homes that Saturday's fire heavily damaged. One resident was taken to the hospital from smoke inhalation.
Flames ripped through the row of connected homes around 11 p.m. Firefighters had to cut through the roof of some of the neighboring apartments to keep the fire from spreading.
News 12 spoke with one of the neighbors off camera, who said she was OK but her pets were traumatized.
She also said that two cats are missing from the main home in the fire.
A few hours later, crews responded to a fire about two miles away along Armstrong Avenue.
The property owner told News 12 that it started from a faulty wire in the boiler room. There were no injuries, but residents returned Sunday afternoon to get their belongings while they were temporarily displaced.
Before both of these fires, crews also put one out along West Side Avenue. The Red Cross says it is helping five people from two families there as of Sunday night.
In all, they were assisting 16 people from eight families from all three fires, which all began within eight hours just a few miles apart.
