        Escalator fire prompts evacuation of Macy's in Roosevelt Field Mall

        Fire officials say they responded just after noon and found open flames on one of the escalators between the first and second floor.

        A fire broke out at Macy's in the Roosevelt Field Mall early Sunday afternoon which forced shoppers to evacuate.
        Fire officials say they responded just after noon and found open flames on one of the escalators between the first and second floor.
        About 120 firefighters responded to the scene. The mall reopened but Macy’s remained closed for the day.
        Officials say malfunctioning escalator equipment caused the fire. There were no injuries.
