Residents jumped from second-floor apartments and a battalion chief was injured in a three-alarm fire this morning.
The blaze hit a mixed-use building at 482 McBride Ave. around 6 a.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Ricciardi said the chief was checking for victims in the back when a wooden porch collapsed, dropping him 10 feet into burning debris. Firefighters pulled him out, and he was taken to the hospital in stable condition for evaluation.
Mayor Andre Sayegh said a good Samaritan spotted the flames, entered the building to rescue residents, while others leapt from second-floor units. It is not known if any residents were injured. The fire damaged two residences and two businesses, including Urban Gardens CBD shop, displacing six people.
