A Bayer executive's home in Madison is now at the center of an arson investigation. Police say the family is safe and unharmed.
Madison police say a fire was reported at the East Lane home on March 4. The fire was quickly extinguished with no significant damage or injuries.
Madison police say they are investigating, as are the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson/Environmental Crimes Unit, Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI Unit, New Jersey State Fire Marshals Office K-9 Unit, NJ Transit Police, MTA Police Department, the NYPD and the FBI.
A spokesperson for Bayer released a statement to News 12.
"An incident occurred at the private home of one of Bayer’s U.S. executives. The family is safe and unharmed. The safety and security of our employees are of utmost importance to Bayer. The incident is under active investigation. The company is cooperating fully with the investigation. We appreciate the quick response of local law enforcement."
Bayer's U.S. operations headquarters is located in Whippany. The company is known for aspirin and Aleve. It's also known for acquiring Monsanto, the maker of weedkiller Roundup.
