A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in his car Tuesday night on Clove Avenue in the Village of Haverstraw, according to police.
According to investigators, it happened about 8:45 p.m. The victim's name has not been released.
Rockland Sheriff's K-9 unit and state troopers were called in to help track down the gunman but so far, no arrests have been made. Police were going door to door canvassing the neighborhood and checking to see if anyone caught anything on ring and home surveillance cameras. News12 spoke to one man who didn't want to show his face on camera. The man said he was out walking with his wife when they heard what sounded like fireworks and then a woman scream.
The man told News12, "We saw two males running towards Main Street through the back yards, both of them were in all black, black hoodies, black sweats, one had white shoes, couldn't really see their faces."
The man said when he got home, he saw a social media post from police about the shooting, and he called to give detectives information about what he saw. Police say multiple law enforcement agencies are working this case and they will release more information when they are able.
