Gunfire rang out at the Arcade Mall in downtown Bridgeport, injuring two-people following the funeral for the city’s first homicide victim of 2026.
Police say it happened around 2 p.m. Details about who was shot and any suspects were not immediately available.
The double shooting took place where a repass was being held for Jordan Thompson, 31, who was shot and killed earlier this month.
"People were coming to say farewell to this beloved young man, and afterward gunfire rang out," said Tony Barr. "I heard the gunshots and I knew it was going to be bad.”
Police Chief Roderick Porter said police and EMS were able to respond so quickly and render life-saving aid. There was already a big police presence at the funeral home, cemetery and the gathering at the Arcade Mall.
"We are strategic in monitoring funerals for homicide victims for this very reason -- and today we were exactly where we needed to be when trouble broke out," Porter said.
Anyone who can help police find the shooter is asked to call (203) 576-TIPS.
