BMX launched more than 40 years ago when Children began racing their bicycles on dirt tracks. It's known as a family sport. Now, the first generation of cyclists is sharing their love of the riding with their Children and grandchildren. Only four tracks are dedicated to the sport in Connecticut News. 12 photojournalist, Laurie Goliath takes us to trumble, ready, watch the gate. It's fast, makes you feel free. And when you're going fast and going through the air, you know, everything comes up quick, there's jumps, there's obstacles. We're at trumble. BMX, Indian Ledge Park in Trumbull, Connecticut and we host uh BMX racing for riders of all ages. BMX got, you know, hugely popular in the late seventies, early eighties. And now we're one of the uh biggest uh most popular tracks in the country. Basically, it's like Motocross on a bicycle. It's your mind, your body, everything. I mean, it's great cardio, it's great leg strength. This will keep you strong if it's not the riding and the, the health benefits. It's all the friends that you have here. It's literally all ages and the families all race on the same day that the little one as early as two years old we'll start. I started racing BMX as a kid in the eighties. I raced until I was about 17. Then I stopped and then a few years ago at 47 I just said I can try it again. I heard that there's old guys racing, they showed up and sure enough, you know, there's, there's a good group of older people. It's still competitive, but being an individual sport, it's great for kids that might not necessarily thrive in team sport atmospheres. The biggest thing is make sure you're always wearing the proper safety equipment and make sure you always have a bike that fits you and that works properly. If you have any interest come, we'll get you on a bike, we'll get you a helmet, we'll get you everything. And the next thing is to get a, uh, boost of confidence in you and have no fear and go at it. Yeah, it's addicting. There's no pressure like team sports you show up when you want. Trumbull BMX is hosting an open house on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Indian Ledge. It is a beautiful park with some rich history that you can experience around. Our. Shannon takes us to Sands Point Preserve in this week's road trip. Close to home. It's a more than 200 acre picturesque estate on Long Island's North Shore Sands Point Preserve. Conservancy consists of 20th century Great Gatsby era mansions with plenty of options to enjoy the great outdoors. We have six miles of hiking trails. We have this 33 1000 gallon pond. We have one mile of beach frontage right along the Long Island Sound Shore. While the stunning grounds and water views are a sight to see a huge attraction. Here are the Gilded Age Mansions Hempstead House which was built in approximately 1912 is 50,000 square feet. There are over 40 different rooms with a 60 ft high entrance foyer. There's also a palm court, there's a library and a billiard room and of course, there is the summer living room and the winter living room, Castle Gould which was built in 1902 and it's about 100,000 square feet inside. If that's not enough. There are more surprises coming this fall, this coming November we plan and to open the Sands Point Preserve us Navy Simulation Museum. If you want to step back in time and visit Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, they are open Wednesday through Sunday, rain or shine from sands point. Uh, we have lift service downhill mountain biking and it's some of the best times of the year to be out on the trails. That dirt is at its absolute best. Uh, we have a mountain top zip line. It's a great way to come out and see the fall foliage. See Mother Nature at work before we hit the mountain, we get me geared up. So, come on, looking good. Thank you. All right, let's get my bike. All right, we give you everything that you need from the bike rental to your lift ticket, to your instruction. We'll do some warm ups. All right, they're gonna go over everything that you need to know about how to ride a mountain bike here on the mountain. Great job. All right. So now let's hit the actual trail. Yeah, there you go level paddles. Ok. That was so much fun. Now, let's get geared up for the lining. Zip tours here at Mountain Creek is a great way to experience the mountain in a different way. You're actually zip lining over our hidden mountain top lakes, which are extremely beautiful. Ok. So I have a confession. I've never done this before and I'm starting to get a little bit nervous. So there's tons of things to do here. What are we doing? It's just a spectacular place to be, to come see the, see the leaves, see Mother Nature at work. This is so much fun. Well, looking for the ultimate old school hangout. We're talking pool tables, air hockey, you're gonna wanna check out Ocean's eight and Park Slope news. Twelve's Nadia Galindo got to and she shows us all they have to offer in this week's road trip. Close to home. Ocean's eight Billards doesn't look like much when you pass it on Flatbush Avenue, but just go down this flight of stairs, you'll enter an adult playground, everyone that comes in, you know, the first time they, oh my God, they look at the place they freak out owner, Jack Pit Lock started the business 35 years ago and it's since grown to have 32 regulation pool tables. I mean, everything here is like the real mccoy. The intention is for people to come in here and have a good time. But if playing pool is not your thing, we have bowling here, we had the basketball shoot. We have three air hockey tables and six tournament ping pong tables. You can even get a lesson on this side. You hit like this. Like I did do my best to learn that the proper grip hitting it up is really the key. You go, go to learning how to beat your friend. Ah, that was great. And after working up an appetite, playing pool and ping pong, you're gonna wanna check out the food here at Ocean's Eight. They're known for their wings, burgers and beer, battered fries. Uh, wings. People write about it. Our signature Hot Wings are a killer. Our burgers, our Angus half pound burgers and our fries are beer batter, thirsty. There's a 40 ft bar to grab a beer cocktail or in my case, a mocktail Oceans. Eight, a great place to play with friends and make some friends on this road trip. Close to home in Park Slope.
