Dozens of people in Yonkers paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a special event on Monday.
They honored the advocate's life and legacy at a breakfast that was held at the Nepperhan Community Center.
The 39th annual event was hosted by the City of Yonkers.
City Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy served as this year's host.
"When the Nepperhan Community Center organization became defunct, the community asked and my office and I stepped up," Collins-Bellamy said. "The mayor supported us and was a co-sponsor, but it was important, as a member of this community, born-and-raised, to pick up the torch and continue the legacy."
Several speeches and some surprise awards were also given out at the breakfast.
