A Buffalo woman made a stop in the Hudson Valley on Saturday as she walks across the state to honor her son and raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
Debbie Curtis, 62, of Buffalo, said she arrived at LaGuardia Airport on Friday morning. She began her over 500+ mile walk back to Buffalo right after she landed.
Curtis walked through Queens and Manhattan and started her journey Saturday in Elmsford. She’s will make it to Peekskill before the day is over.
She said the walk will end at one her son's favorite parks right outside of Buffalo. Brock Curtis died in 2021, three years after being diagnosed with Bipolar 1.
She said she also completed a 3,100-mile bike ride in his honor, too.
"Brock absolutely gives me strength every day. I think even though we can no longer help Brock, we can help others [through him]," she said.
