A quiet, gated community for people 55 years and older turned into a crime scene when a woman shot a man in the face with a flare gun during an argument, Suffolk County police said.
Suffolk County police said the two people knew each other but are not releasing details on their relationship or what led up to the fight.
The incident happened at the Belmont Vistas Senior Apartments at 409 Wyandanch Ave. in West Babylon around 5:45 p.m. Monday.
Police said Kathleen Schuman, 76, discharged a flare gun, striking a man, 67, in the face. The male victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Schuman was also taken to a hospital for treatment. Suffolk County police said they expect to transfer her from the hospital to the Fourth Precinct this morning ahead of her arraignment later today.
Police charged Schuman with second degree assault.
