A Holbrook woman is accused of carjacking an 84-year-old woman's vehicle and then running her over at a Setauket shopping center.
Police say the victim was trying to park her 2013 Subaru Forrester at the Walmart on Nesconset Highway when 34-year-old Dareine Heller got in the car and tried to drive away. Police say that Heller and the victim struggled, and that the woman was shoved to the ground. They say Heller ran over the woman, dragging her for a short distance.
Heller then struck a pole, a stop sign, a separate vehicle and a brick retaining wall before fleeing the scene, according to police.
Officials say that Heller then drove to Centereach, where she was arrested. She now faces multiple charges and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
