RED FLAG WARNING in effect for NJ as the risk for the spread of wildfires is elevated for Saturday.
COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY in effect during the high tide cycles today for the coastal areas of the state due to tidal piling as winds are perpendicular to the shore - in combination with the Full Moon.
Where did all the rain go? This pattern of warm dry weather continues to zap and stress resources faster than usual.
The Spruce Run Reservoir sits at 32% of its normal capacity. The Manasquan Reservoir is around 50% capacity. Water levels this low have not been experienced in the state in over 20 years. It is going to take a consistent, steady rain for days to just begin to scratch the surface in helping our water woes. Which by the look of the latest computer guidance, is not in our favor.
The probability of more wildfires will increase again tomorrow. The winds are picking back up, frequently gusting to over 25-30 mph during the day. That, and relative humidity values below 30%, create a precarious situation for firefighters trying to get numerous blazes under control.
The weekend forecast is lovely despite the urgency for a significant rain event. The skies on both Saturday and Sunday are filled with sunshine. Temperatures will be on the milder side in the low-60s on both days. Lovely weather, but please be cautious with anything involving flame or something that could cause a spark and fire.
There is a slight chance for sprinkles on Monday. A passing system wraps the area up in clouds with a very small chance some sprinkles could fall. Nothing that would remotely help our water situation. It will bring a reinforced shot of cooler air for next week. All forecasting eyes are on a potential weathermaker for Thursday. Forecasting fingers are crossed that this pans out and some much-needed rain falls on our parched soils.
