A Wheatley Heights man accused of neglecting his dog and confining it to a basement has been charged with animal cruelty.
The Suffolk County SPCA says Isiah Thomas, 20, failed to provide proper food or drink to his 4-year-old Cane Corso, Apollo.
The dog was kept confined to a basement secured by a metal door held shut by three vehicle tires, according to authorities.
Investigators found the dog severely underweight, suffering muscle loss, hair loss, various wounds and a flea infestation.
Apollo is being treated at a local animal shelter.
The SPCA says Thomas is set to be arraigned Oct. 5 at First District Court in Central Islip.
