Fairfield Animal Control is asking residents to stay alert after a person was bit by a coyote Monday.

Officials say during one incident, a person was bitten by a coyote on Catamount Road. During a separate incident on Fencerow Drive, a coyote reportedly attempted to bite a person.

In a Facebook post, officials said the incidents "represent a significant change from the coyote activity previously reported in Fairfield."

Residents are advised not to approach or interact with a coyote. Anyone who sees one should maintain their distance and move to a safer location.

Dogs should be kept leashed and close to their owners when outside. Officials say pets should not be left outside unattended, regardless of their size and whether a yard is fenced in.

Anyone who sees a coyote is actively threatening or attacking a person should call 911.

Coyote sightings or any concerning behavior should be reported to Fairfield Animal Control at 203-254-4857. If Animal Control is not on duty, people should contact the Fairfield Police Department at 203-254-4800.
