Westchester posts New York's biggest population gain as county hits record high
Westchester County recorded the largest population increase in New York State, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The county's population rose by 6,578 people between 2024 and 2025, reaching 1,015,743 — the highest total ever measured for Westchester.
County Executive Ken Jenkins said the continued rise reflects ongoing interest in the area. He said people are choosing the county for its neighborhoods and housing options and that recent growth shows "people come – and they stay."
The figures show Westchester's population is now about 1.1% higher than it was during the 2020 Census. The increase comes during a period when many parts of the state are shrinking. The latest estimates show 24 counties gaining residents while 38 posted losses.
Westchester officials said the new numbers reinforce the county's position as one of the few areas in New York seeing consistent growth.
