Walk MS held its annual fundraiser at Glen Island Park Sunday with the hope of earning $500,000 in donations to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis.
Event organizers estimated at least 1,000 people attended.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disorder that attacks healthy cells. There is no known cure.
Event organizer, Dana Miele, was ecstatic Sunday morning, saying event's such as these only bring the community closer together.
"MS is a disease where you can live well based off the medications that we've funded and there's a whole community standing behind you,” she said. “You don't have to face MS alone."
This year's honoree was Heather Milboer, who was joined by her family at the walk.
