Some major roadways will be closed this Sunday for the TD Five Boro Bike Tour.
In Brooklyn, closures include part of the BQE and the lower level of the Verrazano. In the Bronx, closures include parts of 3rd Avenue and the Manhattan-bound side of the 3rd Avenue Bridge.
Rain is in the forecast, but the tour will go on, rain or shine. A spokesperson for Bike New York says rain can make roadways slippery, which is why they will make safety announcements at the top of each ride wave and consistently communicate about road conditions on social media and through text.
"That being said, we have done this event for 46 years - it is the largest bike ride in America, and it has taken place in the rain, in the sun, in the wind, you name it. We have rescheduled for a hurricane once, and the ride did not happen during the 2020 COVID pandemic. New Yorkers are made of endurance and grit, and so is the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. We look forward to welcoming our riders this year - and know that we will be right out there in the rain with them," wrote Bike New York Director of Communications Alicia McCauley.
