A local mother is demanding justice six years after her 24-year-old son was killed in Bridgeport's West End in what authorities describe as a targeted execution.

Heriberto "Herbie" Marquez was followed and fatally shot on Aug. 29, 2020, while he walked down Iranistan Avenue, just blocks from his Bridgeport home.

Six years later, his mother, 58-year-old Elizabeth Delgado, remains fiercely determined to ensure his case is never forgotten.

"I'm not going to allow you to stop looking," Delgado said, pledging to continuously push police for answers. "It's so painful and we need closure."

Bridgeport Police Detective Jeffrey Holtz explicitly categorized the murder as an assassination, noting that investigators believe multiple individuals may have been involved in the ambush.

Authorities are strongly leaning on the belief that bystanders saw the attack take place.

"Six years later, we're asking for those individuals to come forward," Holtz said.

In her quest for answers, Delgado has repeatedly appealed to state officials to establish a financial reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

To date, those requests have gone unanswered, she says.
