Waterbury woman charged with DUI manslaughter after fatal crash kills Danbury man
A Danbury man was killed after being struck by an SUV in Waterbury, and the driver is now facing criminal charges.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday on South Main Street in Waterbury.
Officers found the 43-year-old victim lying in the roadway next to an SUV. He suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators determined the driver, Meralis Rivera-Maldonado, 38, of Waterbury, continued driving after striking the pedestrian and then crashed into two unoccupied parked vehicles before stopping, police said.
While speaking with Rivera-Maldonado, officers observed signs of intoxication, according to police.
Rivera-Maldonado was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, reckless driving and operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
She was arraigned in court Friday morning.
